We are grateful to Dr.Fred G. Meijer, Amsterdam for confirming the authorship. Little is known about Harmen Loeding's (also: Harmen Luyding) artistic career. Born c. 1637 in Leiden, he is listed in the painters' guild there from 1664 to 1673, as a master in 1665, and was probably already active as a painter before that. He may have been trained in the workshop of Pieter de Ring (c. 1615-1660), whose work Loeding significantly influenced. The Leiden painter Nicolaes van Gelder (c. 1636-1676), of the same age, also seems to have had an influence on Loeding.
